SUMMARY:Great Tower Scout Activity Camp
DESCRIPTION:This is a joint camp. 239 will join “1st Davenport Mile-End” Scout group. \nVenue: \nScout Adventures Great Tower \nBirks Road\, Newby Bridge\, Cumbria LA23 3PQ \nTransport:  \nWe unfortunatley were unable to book a minibus this time. Transport is to be arranged by parents\, bring to the venue. \nAccomodation: \nThe scouts will be camping. The venue will provide tents for the scouts to put up. Scouts should bring all the usual personal equipment (sleeping bag\, roll mat\, personal equipment as per kit list). We would also appreciate help transporting our 239 cooking equipment etc for this event. \nActivities:  \nThere will be approx 2 organised activities each day. \nCamp Organisation \nAll scouts are to put up their own tents. Scouts will be doing their own cooking. Scouts will be looking after their own area in maintaining which include general duties of sharing with washing cooking wood preparation and general tidiness of their immediate area. They will also be working in patrols this means the Scouts will have opportunities to cook and to clean and when they have no job to do relax. \nThis will be done on a rotating basis leaders will be there to support and intervene if required. \nThere will be daily inspections and at the end of the camp there will be a prize for the best patrol. \nThere will also be time to play and to do wide games on site. \nThe Scouts were also will need pocket money that will be decided never time when summer camp meeting has been called and this will be run by a camp bank. \nThis site is a national site and international site it has its own members of staff and it has 24-hour cover. \nThis year has proved to be impractical to hire a minibus due to extremely high costs. \nTransport will be needed by parents to take to camp and return. \nThis year we will need assistance on taking equipment it is not possible to borrow from the other Troop because there taking two sections and all their kit is required. If you wish your son/daughter to attend this camp you will be agreeing to help with taking equipment there and back. Without this support it will not be feasible to take Scouts to camp. \nWe are fortunate enough to borrow Tents from the site. \nPlease take note on the basic details that concerning starting time and finishing time is a guide this will be confirmed nearer the time. All paperwork concerning camp will be issued after the closing date. Below is the address please have a look at the website and this will give you some idea on how Great Towers looks: https://www.scoutadventures.org.uk/centre/great-tower \nPayment for this event:  \nPlease see your email for the schedule of payment for this event\, which should be by Bank Transfer\, thank you \n

SUMMARY:(June Scout Camp 23) - cancelled/postponed..... new details soon......
DESCRIPTION:Update: This event is now being postponed – It is not logistically possible to run this trip on that June weekend after all. But: Watch this space – instead we will be running a small “expedition” (journey) format trip to help our scouts with navigation / planning / journeying skills – Dates and Details TBC \n \nWho is it for? 239 Scouts section only \nWhere? Linnet’s Clough Scout Campsite\, Near Mellor/Marple \nWhat? Thiswill be a lighter/practice version of the local “Dave Slater competition”\, but just for our Scouts at 239. \nThis is a great way to experience planning and carrying out a camp in an independent (but supported) setting. \nThe “David Slater competition” is run on a yearly basis. Its basic principle is to have Scouts to plan a weekend camp from beginning to end with all required evidence of administration equipment\, food\, planning and activities when on camp. \nWe will be doing something similar to this\, but a lighter version for practice\, with the idea of entering the David Slater competition “for real” next year. And for our scouts to gain skills\, learn responsibility\, and build up their capabilities and confidence in themselves and each other. \nFor the last few weeks\, the leaders have concentrated on training our scouts on how to plan a camp. \nTo make it more interesting for the Scouts will treat it like a “top gear exercise.” Throughout the weekend we will give Scouts a challenge we will be wearing white aprons and hand over an envelope with instructions on to do the activity. We will be encouraging scouts to be independent\, and we will step in when required. Within this camp we have two Scout-based activities one large one small. These will help with their badge work. \nThis is going to be a very fun weekend\, and we are using it to build everyone’s skills\, and to support our scouts in their personal aims: For independence\, and towards various awards. \nBooking: Please indicate on OSM by 13 May to say whether you are available \nPayment: Will be via bank transfer – Please make money transfer for the exact amount and if possible ref using your child’s name. \n
